=== Asal usul nama "Hengchun" ===

SetalahSetelah [[Insiden Mudan (1871)|MudanInsiden IncidentMudan]] tahun 1871 yang terjadi di ujung selatan Taiwan, pejabat pemerintah Qing, [[Shen Baozhen]] membuat sebuah pidato kepada pemerintahan untuk membangun sebuah kota di ''Longkiau'' ({{zh|c=瑯嶠|poj=Lông-kiau}}) bagi pelaut asing untuk mengakomodasi dan melindungi mereka dari pembantaian penduduk asli. Selama dia tinggal, Shen melihat bahwa iklim daerah itu tetap hangat dan cerah, dengan tanaman tetap "hijau dan subur" sepanjang tahun, oleh karena itu dia menamakannya ''Hengchun'' ({{zh|c=恆春|l=Musim Semi Abadi|labels=no}}) sebelum dia pergi pada tahun 1875 dan istilah tersebut telah digunakan untuk mengacu pada daerah tersebut sejak saat itu.
