It should be noted upon reviewing the first Burzum album, during "Ea, Lord of the Depths", Vikernes screams Ea Lord of the Deep over and over, it is listed in the lyrics as this as well, which may explain why Euronymous chose to list it as stated above.
Aarseth took the name from the [[Sodom (band)|Sodom]] song "Deathlike Silence" (from their [[1986]] release ''[[Obsessed by Cruelty]]''). The label was actually located in the basement of his CD store [[Helvete]] (Norwegian for Hell) in [[Oslo]]. At first, the label signed only Norwegian black metal bands that were involved in anti-christian or evil activities. Later, Aarseth allowed bands from other countries to be signed, namely [[Abruptum]] and [[Merciless]] from Sweden and [[Sigh (band)|Sigh]] from Japan. However, all bands had to meet Aarseth's standards of "evilness".
