Mr. Peabody adalah seekor anjing yang menjadi penemu, ilmuwan dan dia telah dua kali meraih medali Olimpiade, dengan kata lain dia adalah seekor anjing yang jeniusgenius. Mr. Peabody memiliki anak angkat bernama Sherman, mereka berdua memiliki rahasia tentang sebuah penemuan paling canggih yang disebut 'The WABAC Machine'. WABAC adalah sebuah mesin waktu yang dengan cepat membawa seseorang melihat berbagai peristiwa bersejarah sekaligus menemui beberapa tokoh besar sepanjang masa. Suatu ketika seorang gadis bernama Penny Peterson sedang berkunjung kekediaman Mr. Peabody. Sherman yang pada awalnya hanya ingin menunjukkan tentang mesin waktu itu kepada Penny secara tiba-tiba mereka memutuskan untuk pergi ke masa lalu, disaat mereka kembali ternyata mereka berdua telah mengubah sejarah. Pada akhirnya Mr. Peabody, Sherman dan Penny harus kembali ke masa lalu untuk memperbaiki sejarah sekaligus untuk menyelamatkan masa depan, selain itu Mr. Peabody mungkin akan menghadapi tantangan terbesarnya sebagai orang tua.
