Kahn menyelesaikan studi diploma di [[City College of New York]] pada tahun [[1960]], dan kemudian menyelesaikan program master dan Ph.D. dari [[Princeton University]] pada tahun [[1962]] dan [[1964]]. Kemudian ia bekerja di [[Bell Laboratories]], dan juga bekerja sebagai Assistant Professor di bidang teknik elektro di [[MIT]].
