Formasi awal terdiri dari 5 orang, termasuk Russell dan Hitchcock, Chrissie Hammond serta dua anggota lain. Hammond keluar dan digantikan Jeremy Paul sebelum Air Supply menghasilkan singel hit pertama, "Love and Other Bruises" ([[1976]]). Pada tahun [[1979]], Air Supply merilis sebuah [[album konsep]] berjudul ''[[Life Support (album)|Life Support]]''. Dengan Charles Fisher sebagai produser, album tersebut direkam di studio sempit bernama Trafalgar Studios di [[Sydney, Australia]]. Dalam wawancara yang direkam dalam DVD tahun 2005, Graham teringat betapa sempitnya ruangan studio. Hanya tersisa sekitar 1 &nbsp;cm antara dinding studio dan ujung gitarnya. Album ''Life Support'' berisi lagu "[[Lost in Love]]" dengan masa putar 5½ menit. Lagu yang diciptakan Russell hanya dalam 15 menit ini ternyata menarik perhatian pemilik label [[Arista Records|Arista]], [[Clive Davis]]. Album ''[[Lost In Love (album)|Lost in Love]]'' yang dirilis tahun 1980 menghasilkan 3 singel yang masuk urutan 5 besar tangga lagu di AS. Lagu "Lost in Love" sampai di urutan ke-3, "[[Every Woman In The World]]" di urutan ke-5, dan "[[All Out of Love]]" di urutan ke-2. Album kompilasi ''[[Greatest Hits (album Air Supply)|Greatest Hits]]'' dirilis tahun [[1983]] dengan bonus lagu baru, "[[Making Love out of Nothing at All]]" karya [[Jim Steinman]]. Lagu "Making Love out of Nothing at All" merupakan salah satu hit terbesar Air Supply. Setelah album ''The Book of Love'' tahun [[1997]], Air Supply mengeluarkan album ''[[Yours Truly]]'' ([[2001]]), dan ''[[Across the Concrete Sky]]'' ([[2003]]). Air Supply sering mengadakan konser di Asia, termasuk di [[India]], [[RRC]], [[Hong Kong]], [[Taiwan]], dan negara-negara [[Asia Tenggara]]. Dalam rangkaian tur keliling dunia ''Air Supply World Tour 2005'', Air Supply main di 5 kota di [[Indonesia]], [[Semarang]], [[Makassar]], [[Bali]], [[Bandung]], [[Pekanbaru]], [[16 Juni]]-[[24 Juni]] [[2005]]. Pada tahun [[2005]], Air Supply menjadi grup musik asing pertama yang diundang pentas di [[Havana]], [[Kuba]]. Dari 2 kali konser yang direncanakan, Air Supply hanya manggung dipada hari pertama, [[7 Juli]] [[2005]]. Konser dipada hari pertama dihadiri 175 ribu penonton<ref name=bio /> sebelum keesokan harinya Kuba dilanda angin topan dan konser hari kedua dibatalkan.

Album akustik untuk memperingati 30 tahun Air Supply, ''[[The Singer and the Song]]'' dirilis tahun [[2006]]. Pada [[2 Desember]] [[2006]], mereka untuk kedua kalinya mengunjungi [[Kingston, Jamaika]].
