Sounding the Seventh Trumpet direkam pada November 2000, dengan anggaran $ 2.000. Ketika anggota band masuk ke studio, The Rev merekam semua drum dalam satu kali pengambilan, dan anggota band lainnya menambahkan bagian-bagian mereka ke apa yang telah dia buat. Zacky Vengeance awalnya memainkan gitar utama. Kemudian, ketika Synyster Gates bergabung dengan band pada awal tahun 2001, mereka merekam versi heavy metal "To End the Rapture" dengan Gates memainkan gitar utama. Versi heavy metal ini pertama kali terlihat pada single "Warmness on the Soul", dan kemudian ditampilkan pada rilis ulang Sounding the Seventh Trumpet.
