Johnny Cash lahir di [[Kingsland]], [[Arkansas]] dari pasangan Ray Cash dan Carrie Cloveree. Ia adalah anak keempat dari tujuh anak, yang berada dalam urutan kelahiran: Roy, Margaret Louise, Jack, J. Lagu Johnny Cash, "Folsom Prison Blues", jadi lagu hit lima besar country pada masa itu. Lagunya "I Walk the Line" menjadi nomor satu di urutan lagu country dan masuk ke urutan lagu pop teratas 20 besar, diikuti lagunya "Home of the Blues" direkam pada Juli 1957.
