Setelah merilis ''[[Riot!]]'' dan kesibukan tanpa henti selama setahun, pada awal 2008 sebuah blog menyatakan bahwa mereka sedang mengalami "masalah internal", bersamaan dengan pembatalan pertunjukan selama seminggu, sehingga berkembang spekulasi mengenai pecahnya band.<ref name="break" /> Tidak lama berselang, masalah itu selesai dan kemudian muncul masalah mengenai materi baru.
