Alcyone danHalkionedan pasangannya sangat bahagia di [[TrakhisThrakia]]. Menurut [[Pseudo-ApollodorusApollodoros]], mereka sering saling memanggil dengan panggilan "[[Zeus]]" dan "[[Hera]]". Ini membuamembuat Zeus marah, jadi ketika KeyxKeiks sedang berlayar untuk berkonsultasi dengan [[orakel Delphi]], Zeus melemparkan petir ke kapalnya. Hantu KeyxKeiks kemudian hadir pada AlkyoneHalkione dan menceritakan tentang nasibnya. Dalam kesedihannya, AlkyoneHalkione pun melemparkan diri ke laut . Karena kasihan, para dewa mengubah mereka berdua menjadi burung"Burung Halkyon".
[[OvidOvidius]] dan [[Hyginus]] juga menceritakan tentang perubahan wujud pasangan itu dan kematian KeyxKeiks dalam badai yang mengerikan. Namun mereka berdua tidak menyebutkan kemarahan Zeus sebagai penyebabnya. OvidOvidius juga menambahkan tentang AlkyoneHalkione yang melihat tubuh suaminya terdampar di pantai sebelum kemudian mencoba bunuh diri.
