Pada bulan September 2008, Mikkola mengambil bagian dalam ''[[Colin McRae]] Forest Stages Rally'', sebuah putaran dari Kejuaraan Reli Skotlandia. Dia adalah salah satu dari sejumlah mantan juara dunia yang ambil bagian dalam acara tersebut untuk mengenang McRae, yang meninggal pada tahun 2007.
