Dari [[5 Februari]] [[1942]] hingga [[29 November]] [[1943]], ia menjadi komandan Pangkalan ke-6 di [[Kwajalein]], [[Kepulauan Marshall]]. secara tidak langsung ia juga sebagai Gubernur Militer untuk [[Kepulauan Marshall]], [[Pulau Gilbert]], [[Nauru]], Pulau Ocean dan [[Pulau Wake]] di Samudera Pasifik bagian tengah.

Pasukan Marinir berhasil menghancurkan stasiun radio, depo bahan bakar dan depo pasokan Jepang. Mereka kehilangan 30 orang, sedangkan Jepang kehilangan sekitar 85-160 orang. Setelah serangan, sembilan Marinir Amerika Serikat tertangkap oleh pasukan [[Jepang]] dan menjadi tawanan perang di [[Kwajalein]], mereka ditahan selama sekitar satu bulan. Dari tanggal [[27 Desember]] [[1943]] hingga [[25 April]] [[1945]], ia menjadi komandan “Tateyama Naval Gunnery School” di [[Tateyama]], [[Chiba]], Jepang. Hingga akhir perang, ia menjabat sebagai komandan unit pangkalan di Pangkalan Angkaytan Laut Sasebo di [[Kyushu]], [[Jepang]].
Setelah Perang Dunia II berakhir, ia ditangkap oleh otoritas SCAP ''(Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers)'' atau [[Komandan Tertinggi Sekutu]] dan dituntut sebagai penjahat perang atas peran sertanya dalam [[Insiden Makin]].
