Katherine adalah presiden pertama Dewan Wanita Nasional Selandia Baru yang didirikan pada 1896, dan membantu mereformasi organisasi ini pada 1918. Di kemudian hari, Katherine berangkat ke Inggris dan membantu gerakan hak suara perempuan di sana. Dengan kondisi kesehatan yang menurun, Katherine pulang ke Selandia Baru, dan terus memperjuangkan pemberian hak suara kepada kaum perempuan melalui tulisan, meskipun tidak terlalu aktif lagi berpolitik. Katherine wafat pada 1934 tanpa meninggalkan keturunan.
Berkat perannya selaku pemimpin ''[[de facto]]'' dari gerakan perintis hak suara perempuan di Selandia Baru, Katherine dikenal luas sebagai salah seorang tokoh Selandia Baru yang paling terkemuka. Gambar Katherine dijadikan pengganti gambar Ratu Elizabeth II pada sisi depan lembaran uang kertas pecahan sepuluh dolar Selandia Baru pada 1991.
