Hong Sang-soo memulai kariernya di dunia film sejak menempuh pendidikan di [[Chung-Ang University]] Korea Selatan, sebelum pindah ke [[Amerika Serikat]] untuk meraih gelar sarjana dari [[California College of the Arts|California College of Arts and Crafts]] dan gelar masternya and dari [[School of the Art Institute of Chicago]].
