== Etimologi ==
Kata perkamen diambil dari nama kota Yunani ''[[Pergamon]]'' atau ''Pergamos'' (Πέργαμος) yang sekarang terletak di Turki dan bernama [[Bergama]]. Perkamen tidaklah ditemukan untuk pertama kalinya di kota ini, tetapi kota ini pada era klasik, yaitu sekitar awal abad Masehi, menghasilkan perkamen berkualitas tinggi sehingga bahan ini disebut demikian. Sebelumnya perkamen telah digunakan di [[Mesir]] dan [[Timur Tengah]].
