Di waktu luangnya, Fahrenheit terus bereksperimen. Pekerjaannya membawa Fahrenheit berkeliling Eropa dan berkenalan dengan tokoh akademis ternama seperti Gottfried Leibenz dan [[Christian Wolff]]. Pada tahun 1718, dia berhenti dari pekerjaanya dan mengajar di Amsterdam. Dia menemukan pertama kali skema [[Fahrenheit]] pada tahun [[1724]].
