Ibu kota kecamatan ini berada di Pakalu dengan jarak 7 &nbsp;km dari [[Turikale (kota)|Kota Turikale]] yang merupakan ibu kota dan pusat pemerintahan Kabupaten Maros. Wilayah ini terkenal akan keindahan alamnya yang membuatnya menjadi salah satu tujuan wisata yang populer. Objek wisata yang ada di kecamatan ini antara lain [[Taman Nasional Bantimurung Bulusaraung]], [[Taman Arkeologi Leang-Leang]], Puncak Baro-Baro, Wisata Wae Merrungnge Tompobalang, Wisata Bulusipong, dan lain-lain.
