Sementara itu pada masa yang bersamaan mesin jenis jet telah pula diciptakan dan telah diuji coba di sebuah pabrik di [[Jerman]] (Heinkel) pada Maret 1937. Perancangnya adalah seorang Jerman bernama Von Ohain. Mesin Whittle dikembangkan beberapa tahun lebih awal dari Dr Hans von Ohain asal Jerman yang merupakan desainer dari operasional mesin jet pertama . Frank Whittle lahir pada tanggal 1 Juni 1907 di [[Coventry]], [[Inggris]]. Selama 22 tahun ia bertugas di Royal Air Force (RAF). Tugas pertama Frank Whittle adalah merancang penggunaan mesin turbin gas untuk listrik [[pesawat terbang]].
