Acara yang mencari bakat muda Indonesia bersuara emas dalam bernyanyi jenis musik pop dan siap jadi bintang ini diproduksi oleh Indonesia Entertainmen Produksi. Acara ini mulai ditayangkan pada tanggal 5 Oktober 2020, dengan jargonnya ''Be Pop Academy and Be a Super Star'' (lit. "Jadilah Pop Academy dan Jadilah Super Star"). Pop Academy sendiri ada karena [[Indosiar]] sudah berhasil dan sukses dengan ajang pencarian bakat sebelumnya di musik dangdut seperti [[D'Academy]], [[Liga Dangdut Indonesia]], [[D'Star]], dan berharap kesuksesan Pop Academy akan seperti ajang pencarian bakat sebelumnya yang dibuat oleh [[Indosiar]]. Pop Academy dibuat juga bertujuan untuk mencari idola baru di kancah musik pop [[Indonesia]]. Maka dari itu, ajang ini akan mempertemukan talenta-talenta terbaik penyanyi pop dari seluruh [[Indonesia]] yang akan bertanding di panggung megah Pop Academy demi menjadi juara Pop Academy pertama di [[Indosiar]]. Sama seperti pendahulunya di bidang ajang pencarian bakat musik pop yaitu [[Akademi Fantasi Indosiar]], para peserta yang masuk ke babak konser selanjutnya akan disebut "akademia". Para juara Pop Academy sendiri akan mendapatkan hadiah sebesar total Rp650.000.000,00 dan kontrak ekslusif dari [[Stream Entertainment]], manajemen artis milik [[Surya Citra Media]].
