Pada Agustus 2003, Nissan meluncurkan Konsep Dunehawk dan memamerkannya di IAA 2003 di Frankfurt (paten desain R51 diajukan 8 September 2003), meninjau desain Pathfinder berikutnya. Pada Pameran Mobil [[North American International Auto Show|Internasional Amerika Utara 2004]], Nissan meluncurkan Pathfinder yang didesain ulang sepenuhnya untuk model tahun 2005. Pathfinder R51 baru menggunakan platform Nissan F-Alpha.
