Menurut tulisan Kahin ttg bung Hatta, beliau studi tentang ekonomi di Rotterdam School of Commerce, dan mendapat gelar Doctorandus (Drs.) pada tahun 1932. Dan di tulisan tsb disebutkan pula bahwa sebenarnya bung Hatta telah menyelesaikan semua persyaratan untuk mencapai gelar doctorate, hanya belum menyelesaikan thesisnya, dan tidak selesai karena kemudian dia terlalu aktif di bidang politik, sehingga gelar resmi yg disandangnya Drs., bukan Dr. Detilnya bisa di baca di ''George McT.
