Mohammad Nor Khalid lahir pada tanggal [[5 Maret]] [[1951]] di sebuah kampung (desa) di [[Kota Baru, Perak]], [[Malaysia]]. Ayahnya adalah seorang pegawai pemerintah di Angkatan Bersenjata Malaysia, dan ibunya seorang ibu rumah tangga.{{Sfn|Willmott|1989}} Khalid adalah anak yang bertubuh kekar dengan wajah montok, yang menyebabkan keluarganya memberikan julukan padanya "Bulat".
