Putri Benedikte dan saudarinya menghabiskan masa kecilnya di Apartemen Istana Frederik VIII di Amalienborg di Copenhagen dan [[Istana Fredensborg]] di [[Selandia Utara]]. Ia menghabiskan liburan musim panas bersama keluarga kerajaan kediaman musim panas orang tuanya di [[Istana Gråsten]] di [[Jutland Selatan]]. Benedikte menikah pada 3 Februari 1968 di Gereja [[Istana Fredensborg]] dengan [[Richard, Pangeran Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg ke-6]] (1934–2017). Mereka dikaruniai tiga anak:

Putri Benedikte sangat terlibat banyak dalam organisasi [[Pramuka]]/[[Kepanduan]] baik di Denmark maupun internasional. Saat ia dalam masa kanak-kanak, sebuah spesial unit pramuka terbentuk sehingga ia bergabung dalam kepanduan.
