Fausto Gresini mendirikan tim pada tahun 1997 dengan Fabrizio Cecchini sebagai direktur teknis. Tim tersebut berkompetisi di kelas 500 cc dengan pebalap Brasil [[Alex Barros]] dengan mengendarai Honda [[NSR500V]].
