SZA pertama kali bertemu anggota [[Top Dawg Entertainment]] dan Jason Manawan selama CMJ New Music Report pada 2011, ketika perusahaan pakaian pacarnya mensponsori sebuah pertunjukan di mana Kendrick Lamar tampil.
