Bruegel melukis ''Orang Buta'' setahun sebelum kematiannya. Lukisan itu bernada getir dan sedih, yang mungkin terkait dengan pembentukan [[Dewan Masalah]] pada tahun 1567 oleh pemerintah [[Belanda Spanyol]].
