Ia memenangkan [[Penghargaan Kebudayaan Asia Fukuoka]] pada tahun 2002, Lat mempublikasikan lebih dari 20&nbsp;volume kartun sejak ia berumur 13&nbsp;tahun. Karya-karyanya sebagian besar menggambarkan kehidupan sosial dan politik Malaysia, menggambarkan mereka dalam sebuah situasi komedi tanpa adanya prasangka. Karya Lat yang paling terkenal adalah ''[[The Kampung Boy]]'' (1979), yang dipublikasikan di beberapa negara di seluruh dunia. Mohammad Nor Khalid lahir pada tanggal [[5 Maret]] [[1951]] di sebuah kampung (desa) di [[Kota Baru, Perak]], [[Malaysia]]. Ayahnya adalah seorang pegawai pemerintah di Angkatan Bersenjata Malaysia, dan ibunya seorang ibu rumah tangga.{{Sfn|Willmott|1989}} Khalid adalah anak yang bertubuh kekar dengan wajah montok, yang menyebabkan keluarganya memberikan julukan padanya "Bulat".
