Weber lahir pada [[Wittenberg]], dimana ayahnya, Michael Weber, menjadi profesor teologi. Wilhelm merupakan anak kedua dari tiga bersaudara. Setelah pembubaran [[Universitas Halle-Wittenberg#Sejarah|Universitas Wittenberg]], ayahnya dipindahkan ke [[Halle, Saxony-Anhalt|Halle]] pada 1815. William mendapatkan pelajaran pertamanya dari ayahnya, namuntetapi kemudian dikirim ke Orphan Asylum dan Grammar School di Halle. Setelah itu, ia masuk Universitas, dan mengabdikan dirinya kepada bidang filsafat alam.
