Listowel kadang-kadang disebut sebagai "IbukotaIbu kota Sastra Irlandia". Di kota ini lahirlah sejumlah penulis terkemuka, sehingga sejak tahun [[1971]] diselenggarakan festival sastra tahunan ''Writer's Week''. Sejumlah pengarang pernah ada di sini, seperti [[Bryan MacMahon (penulis)|Bryan MacMahon]] dan [[John Brendan Keane]].
