Karena kekurangan sumber daya untuk membangun kembali Sarawak setelah perang, pemerintah Brooke tidak berniat membangun kembali Sarawak. Ia memutuskan untuk menyerahkan kedaulatan Sarawak kepada Koloni Mahkota Inggris.
