== Ringkasan musim ==
Pengunduran diri Vanwall, yang diyakini sebagai akibat dari tingginya tingkat kematian pada musim 1958, meninggalkan Ferrari sebagai satu-satunya tim pemenang balapan di kejuaraan. Demikian pula, pengunduran diri Juan Manuel Fangio dan Mike Hawthorn berarti bahwa untuk pertama kalinya, tidak ada juara dunia yang berada di grid. Mobil revolusioner Cooper bermesin tengah, yang ditenagai oleh mesin 2,5 liter Coventry-Climax yang ringkas, memenangkan lima balapan bersama Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss dan Bruce McLaren.
