Jaringan konvensional jalur  [[Kereta kecepatan tinggi|kereta api berkecepatan tinggi]] di Tiongkok terdiri dari empat komponen:

Inti dari ekspansi MOR MOR ke rel kecepatan tinggi nasional adalah jaringan rel kecepatan tinggi yang dibangun di atas jaringan kereta api yang sudah ada. Jaringan ini terdiri dari delapan koridor rel kecepatan tinggi, empat koridor yang mengarah ke utara-selatan dan empat koridor yang mengarah ke timur-barat, dan memiliki total panjang 12.000&#x20nbsp;km. Sebagian besar dari jalur mengikuti rute yang sudah ada dan diperuntukkan hanya bagi lalu lintas penumpang saja. Yang dikenal sebagai jalur khusus penumpang (PDL). Beberapa bagian dari jaringan nasional, terutama di sepanjang koridor pesisir tenggara, dibangun untuk menghubungkan kota-kota yang sebelumnya belum memiliki sambungan rel. == Rel Kereta Api Kecepatan Tinggi Antar Kota ==
Rel kereta api antar kota dirancang untuk menyediakan layanan rel kecepatan tinggi regional antara kota-kota besar dan [[Metropolitan|area metropolitan]] yang sebagian besar berada dalam propinsi yang sama. Dibangun dengan persetujuan pemerintah pusat tetapi dibiayai dan dioperasikan oleh pemerintah daerah dengan investasi terbatas dan pengawasan dari Perusahaan Rel Kereta Api Tiongkok. Beberapa jalur antar kota berjalan paralel dengan jalur kereta api kecepatan tinggi lain tetapi melayani lebih banyak stasiun sepanjang rute. Layanan HSR antar kota berkecepatan antara 200–350&nbsp;km/jam (120-220&nbsp;mph).
