''Lexington'' merupakan [[USS Lexington|Kapal AL Amerika Serikat]] yang dinamai berdasarkan [[Pertempuran Lexington dan Concord|Pertempuran Lexington]] yang terjadi pada tahun 1775.<ref name=DANFS/> Kapal ini pertamakalinya dibuat tahun 1916 sebagai {{sclass-|Lexington|Kapal Penjelajah Tempur|2}}, tetapi pembuatannya ditunda sehingga pembuatan kapal-kapal yang saat itu lebih penting seperti kapal [[peperangan anti kapal selam|anti kapal selam]] dan kapal dagang, yang dibutuhkan untuk memastikan perjalanan material dan personel yang aman selama perjalanan ke Eropa pada masa [[Kampanye U-boat (Perang Dunia I)|kampanye U-boat]].
