Pada awal 237 SM, setelah mengalami berbagai kekalahan, pemberontakan ini akhirnya dipadamkan dan kota-kota yang membangkang kembali dikuasai Kartago. Kartago kemudian merencanakan sebuah ekspedisi militer untuk menduduki kembali [[Sardinia]]; di pulau tersebut para pemberontak telah membantai semua orang Kartago. Namun, Romawi memperingatkan bahwa tindakan ini akan dianggap sebagai pernyataan perang, dan Romawi kemudian menduduki Sardinia dan [[Korsika]] meskipun tindakan ini bertentangan dengan perjanjian perdamaian antara kedua negara. Hal ini dianggap sebagai pemicu perang Romawi-Kartago pada 218 SM.
