Terdapat beberapa sajian tradisional dari hidangan tersebut, seperti ''Coniglio all'ischitana'' di pulau [[Ischia]], [[Hasenpfeffer]] di [[Jerman]] dan ''jugged hare'' di [[Britania Raya]] dan [[Prancis]]. Terwelu rebus telah ada sejak sekitar abad ke-14, dan diterbitkan dalam ''[[The Forme of Cury]]'' pada masa itu sebagai resep untuk merebus terwelu. Kelinci rebus adalah hidangan tradisional dari suku Algonquin, dan juga merupakan bagian dari masakan kepulauan Yunani. Trwelu rebus diperdagangkan secara komersial dan dikalengkan pada sekitar awal 1900-an di barat Prancis dan timur Jerman.
