Seri ini tumpang tindih dengan produksi [[Volvo 700Seri Series700]] (1982 hingga 1992). Karena Seri 240 tetap populer, hanya Seri 260 yang digantikan oleh Seri 700, yang dipasarkan Volvo bersama 240 selama satu dekade berikutnya. 700 digantikan oleh [[Volvo 900Seri Series|900|Seri Series900]] pada tahun 1992, setahun sebelum 240 dihentikan.
