Untuk mengawali proses restruktursisasi, Alphabet akan dibentuk sebagai perusahaan anak yang dimiliki secara langsung oleh Google. Peran kedua perusahaan ini – induk dan anak – akan dibalik dengan dua tahap. Pertama, perusahaan anak palsu bernama Alphabet akan dibentuk. Kedua, Google akan bergabung dengan perusahaan anak palsu tersebut. Semua saham Google akan dialihkan ke Alphabet.
