Misal, dalam agama Katolik, "Virgin Mary" sering diterjemahkan menjadi "Bunda Maria", padahal dalam bahasa Indonesia, padanan untuk kata "virgin" adalah perawan. Hal ini karena dalam budaya Indonesia, membahas sesuatu yang terkait masalah seksualitas cenderung tidak dilakukan secara blak-blakan, meskipun konotasinya baik. Kata "virgin" (perawan) yang melekat dengan nama Maria sendiri konotasinya baik, menunjukkan bahwa beliau adalah wanita suci. Namun dalam "rasa" penutur bahasa Indonesia, sekali lagi, kata-kata yang berhubungan dengan keadaan seksualitas cenderung tidak diungkapkan secara blak-blakan, terlebih dikaitkan dengan seorang tokoh yang disucikan, meski memang konotasinya baik. Itu sebabnya kata ini lebih sering disepadankan dengan kata 'Bunda' yang dalam bahasa Indonesia lebih sesuai untuk disandingkan dengan seorang wanita yang disucikan dalam agama seperti Maria. Dalam masalah ini, istilah 'Inggris Raya' lebih sesuai karena lebih sesuai dengan 'rasa' bahasa kita dan lebih dikenal masyarakat Indonesia daripada istilah 'Kerajaan Serikat', 'Kerajaan Bersatu', dan istilah-istilah lain yang serupa yang hampir tidak dikenal masyarakat kita. * Secara politis, mungkin terjemahan 'Inggris Raya' seolah mengunggulkan negara bagian Inggris yang sebenarnya hanya salah satu bagian dari United Kingdom.
