Obat ini mungkin bekerja pada tingkat [[sumsum tulang belakang]] dan area sub-kortikal otak, menghambat refleks kontraksi otot dengan banyak [[sinapsis]]. Setelah diberikan secara oral, efeknya dimulai sekitar 30 menit dan mencapai tingkat maksimum sekitar 1 hingga 2 jam setelah pemberian. ==Efek samping==
Umumnya obat ini dapat ditoleransi dengan baik, namun juga dapat menyebabkan mual, malaise, muntah, diare, [[sakit kepala]], dan kantuk. Jarang menyebabkan hipotensi arteri dan takipnea.
