Perusahaan ini didirikan oleh [[MGM]] pada tahun 1944. Seteleh MGM menutup studio animasi tahun 1957, Hanna dan Barbera mulai bekerja dalam H-B Enterprises. Keputusan dibuat untuk berspesialisasi di televisi animasi. Dalam rangka untuk mendapatkan modal kerja mereka untuk menghasilkan kartun, HB telah bekerjasama dengan [[Screen Gems]], unit dari [[Columbia Pictures]]. Serial TV H-B yang pertama adalah ''[[The Ruff & Reddy Show]]''.

Pada tahun [[1991]], perusahaan itu dipegang resmi oleh [[Turner Broadcasting System]].
