Van De Woestijne halaman 971 dibawah kata '''''mystiek''''') kata mistik berasal dari bahasa Yunani ''myein'' yang artinya menutup mata (''de ogen sluiten'') dan ''musterion'' yang artinya suatu rahasia (''geheimnis'').
