Ide penyelenggaraan GPGrand Prix India sebenarnya sudah muncul sejak tahun {{F1|1997}}, pada saat direncanakan akan digelar balapan F1 di [[Kalkuta]]. Balapan ini diadakan di [[Sirkuit Internasional Buddh]] di [[Greater Noida]] dekat [[New Delhi]] antara tahun {{F1|2011}} dan {{F1|2013}}. Sirkuit sepanjang 5,125 km ini dirancang oleh arsitek asal [[Jerman]], yaitu [[Hermann Tilke]]. Empat juta ton kubik bumi dipindahkan untuk mencapai naik turunnya melalui pangkuan.
