Audisi mulai dilaksanakan sejak bulan [[September]] hingga bulan [[November]] [[2012]]. Audisi Idola Cilik Musim Keempat ditayangkan di [[RCTI]] pada 1 Desember 2012, sedangkan Babak Menuju Pentas Idola Cilik 2013 memulai tayang perdananya di RCTI pada 3 Desember 2012. '''Idola Cilik 2013''' hadir dengan konsep dan format baru dibandingkan musim-musim sebelumnya, di mana lagu-lagu anak-anak lebih ditonjolkan dan lagu-lagu dewasa sangat dibatasi. Pada musim ini, [[Duta (penyanyi)|Duta Sheila on 7]] dan [[Dave Hendrik]] tidak lagi menjadi juri dan digantikan oleh [[Naga (penyanyi)|Naga Lyla]] dan [[Raffi Ahmad]]. Adapun [[Ayu Dewi]] menjadi [[pembawa acara]] untuk acara ini dari awal tayang hingga tanggal [[27 Januari]] 2013. Mulai Babak Pentas tanggal 2 Februari 2013 dan seterusnya, acara Idola Cilik 2013 kembali dibawakan oleh [[Okky Lukman]] dikarenakan Ayu Dewi harus lebih banyak beristirahat menjelang proses kelahiran bayi pertamanya.
 
Sejak tayangan perdananya, banyak yang memprediksi pemenang Idola Cilik 2013 akan diraih oleh kontestan perempuan, dikarenakan jumlah kontestan laki-laki dan kontestan perempuan yang tidak seimbang pada awal-awal ajang yaitu di Babak 43 Besar, di mana jumlah kontestan laki-laki adalah 15 peserta dan jumlah kontestan perempuan adalah 28 peserta. Akan tetapi, pada akhirnya gelar juara Idola Cilik 2013 kembali dipastikan diraih oleh kontestan laki-laki, karena satu-satunya kontestan perempuan, yaitu Chelsea, telah tereliminasi langkahnya pada Babak 3 Besar. Bagas dan Difa akhirnya melaju ke Babak Grand Final Idola Cilik 2013 yang diselenggarakan pada hari [[Sabtu]], 13 [[April]] 2013. Sejak [[Idola Cilik Musim Pertama|Idola Cilik 1]] hingga [[Idola Cilik Musim Ketiga|Idola Cilik 3]], biasanya Grand Final Pentas Idola Cilik selalu diselenggarakan di [[MGK Kemayoran|ICC MGK Kemayoran]], [[Jakarta]]. Akan tetapi, Grand Final Pentas Idola Cilik 2013 kali ini diselenggarakan di Studio 1 RCTI. Pada Bintang Grand Final Idola Cilik 2013 yang digelar sore hari Sabtu, 20 April 2013, [[Bagas Rahman Dwi Saputra|Bagas]] akhirnya terpilih sebagai Juara Pertama Idola Cilik 2013 dan [[Muhammad Difa Ryansyah|Difa]] menjadi Juara Kedua Idola Cilik 2013. Hasil perolehan voting dukungan SMS terakhir menunjukkan perbedaan yang cukup signifikan, di mana Bagas meraih 59,51% suara dan Difa meraih 40,49% suara.
