Selalu ada hal baru dan menggairahkan yang disuguhkan, di Album ketujuh mereka [[Wasting Light]] yang dirilis pada 12 April 2011, bersama produser musik [[Butch Vig]] (produser album [[Nirvana]], "[[Nevermind]]"), pengerjaan album ini dilakukan di garasi rumah Dave Grohl dengan beberapa mikropon dan perangkat [[Tape musik|tape]] (tanpa menggunakan komputer).
Lewat racikan musiknya yang murni, tanpa basa-basi,keras, bernyali, dan tidak ada kompromi, Album Wasting Light menjadi album yang paling luar biasa dari 17 tahun sejarah band ini, Faktanya bahwa rekaman rock n roll yang di buat di garasi, benar-benar manual dari kaset tanpa bantuan komputer bisa menjadi album no. 1 di dunia.
Album ini terjual 235,000 keping pada pekan pertama setelah diluncurkan dan menduduki peringkat pertama pada [[US Billboard]] 200 chart. Isi lirik lagu dari Album ini terinspirasi oleh grup musik beraliran pop disko yang notabene banyak menghasilkan lagu-lagu balada yaitu [[ABBA]], grup asal [[Swedia]] inilah yang ternyata menjadi salah satu ide dibalik terciptanya album ini. Namun Foo Fighters langsung mematahkan pendapat orang yang menganggap bahwa hasil rekaman mereka nanti bakal terdengar seperti lagu-lagu yang dibawakan oleh grup band tersebut.

Meskipun awalnya mengumumkan istirahat setelah album Wasting Light, Tapi pada Januari 2013 Grohl kemudian menyatakan bahwa band ini telah mulai menulis materi untuk album studio kedelapan. Pada tanggal 20 Februari 2013, di [[Brit Awards]], Grohl mengatakan dia terbang kembali ke Amerika untuk mulai bekerja di album berikutnya. Pada tanggal 14 September 2014 Band melakukan pertunjukan di pembukaan the Invictus Games, pertunjukan pertama mereka di Inggris sejak penutupan Festival Reading tahun 2012 .
