Corey lahir di Broadlawns Medical Center di [[Des Moines]], [[Iowa]]. Ia dibesarkan oleh neneknya dalam kemiskinan. Ketika ia masih remaja ia tunawisma - ia hidup di jalanan, [[Des Moines]] tidur di bawah jembatan. DiPada masa mudanya Taylor tampil di band lokal [[Stone Sour]], yang ia bersama-didirikan pada tahun [[1992]], dan kembali bersama dengan gitaris rithym Slipknot, [[James Root]], selama kebangkitan pada tahun [[2002]]. Pada usia muda Corey suka turun ke orang-orang seperti "The King" - Elvis, berkat pengaruh dari neneknya. "Elvis adalah seorang penyanyi yang hebat". Pada akhir [[2000]] Taylor telah didekati oleh anggota Stone Sour, Josh Rand tentang memulai kembali band dan merekam materi baru.
