Pada bulan Oktober 2004, Oyem mengalami pemutusan aliran air dan listrik. == Ekonomi ==
Kakao dan kopimenjadi komoditas penting di Oyem dan diangkut ke pelabuhan [[Kribi]] dan [[Douala]] di Kamerun untuk diekspor. Karet dan kentang juga dihasilkan kota ini. Kota ini memiliki sebuah bandar udara yaitu [[Bandar Udara Oyem]].
