Kapal induk ini tidak pernah digunakan dalam kampanye militer dan hanya beroperasi di perairan Jepang saja. Dia rusak parah pada Juli 1945 akibat serangan udara oleh kapal induk Amerika di Kure. Setelah diperbaiki usai perang berakhir, Katsuragi ditugaskan sebagai kapal yang memulangkan tentara dan warga sipil Jepang dari berbagai tempat selama beberapa bulan. Dia mulai dibongkar di [[Jepang]] pada akhir [[1946]].
