VSS Unity menjalani rangkaian uji coba awal yang serupa seperti VSS Enterprise. Rangkaian uji coba ini lebih pendek karena beberapa skenario uji coba lainnya sudah pernah dilakukan oleh Enterprise. Dalam setiap penerbangannya, Unity selalu dibawa oleh pesawat [[Scaled Composites White Knight Two|White Knight Two]] menuju ketinggian tertentu. Pada awal masa pengujian, Unity hanya dibawa terbang pasif di bawah sayap tengah White Knight Two (''captive carry''). Seiring berjalannya waktu, Unity mulai dilepaskan dari pesawat induknya untuk terbang ''gliding'' dan mendarat di landasan pacu. Pada tahap berikutnya, Unity terbang menggunakan mesin roketnya sendiri.
