Meskipun tidak disebutkan namanya di dalam Al-Qur'an, ia disebut oleh para cendekiawan Muslim sebagai sosok yang dijelaskan dalam [[al-Qur'an]] [[Surah Al-Kahf|18:65–82]] sebagai hamba Tuhan yang telah diberi "ilmu" dan yang didampingi dan ditanyai oleh nabi [[Yudaisme|Yahudi]], [[Musa]] tentang banyak tindakan yang tampaknya tidak adil atau tidak pantas yang dia (Khidr) lakukan (menenggelamkan kapal, membunuh seorang pemuda, membalas ketidakramahan dengan memperbaiki tembok). Di akhir cerita Khidr menjelaskan keadaan yang tidak diketahui Musa, membuat setiap tindakan yang dilakukannya menjadi adil dan pantas.
