Remment Koolhaas, yang biasanya disingkat menjadi Rem Koolhaas, lahir pada 17 November 1944 di [[Rotterdam]], [[Belanda]] dari pasangan [[Anton Koolhaas]] (1912–1992) dan Selinde Pietertje Roosenburg (kelahiran 1920). Ayahnya adalah seorang [[novelis]], [[kritikus]], dan [[penulis latar]]. Dua film dokumenter karya [[Bert Haanstra]] dimana ayahnya menulis skenarionya dinominasikan untuk [[Academy Award untuk Film Fitur Dokumenter]], salah satunya memenangkan [[Golden Bear (penghargaan)|Golden Bear]] untuk Film Pendek.
