'''Shiratsuyu''' diserang di [[Biak]] pada 8 Juni oleh pesawat Amerika Serikat, 4 kru tewas dan 5 kru terluka. Malam 14 Juni menjadi misi terakhirnya, kala Shiratsuyu bertabrakan dengan [[kapal tanker Jepang Seiyo Maru]] di {{convert|90|nmi|km}} tenggara Teluk Surigao ({{coord|09|09|N|126|51|E|display=inline, title}}), yang menyebabkan [[peledak kedalaman]]nya meledak. 104 kru dan Komandan Matsuda meninggal. Ia dicoret dari [[daftar angkatan laut]] pada 10 Agustus 1944.
